The history of the Democratic Party, including a pro-segregation redneck president named Woodrow Wilson, changed directions under Franklin D. Roosevelt. The New Deal remade the party and was responsible for pursuing the powers of big government (which the GOP was hardly against when the results of its deregulation started rolling in). Yet there were always Democrats as attracted to the grimy pleasures of illicit entertainment as any group of college kids ready to declare their liberation from the ordinary things people do back home.
We have recently seen those grimy pleasures create a far from quiet storm on the elephant side as Steele is found to have charge of the RNC when its members are not at strip clubs devoted to bondage and abuse by consent. Or hiding in an alley near Tiffany’s waiting to bilk an innocent elephant, the way those people who hustled the GOP did during the last presidential campaign, when Sarah Palin needed new clothes for the stump. The bankers, of course, did nothing to help their own cause or defend their traditional support base in the Republican Party. Their inept campaign has never offered a reason for Americans to support them — in fact, their traditional lobbying effort became the story as they hired any lobbyist with a shine on his Guccis to swarm Capitol Hill. Goldman Sachs’s record earnings report (they couldn’t lie about that, although they’d lied about plenty else) and huge political action committee donations contributed to the bad messaging as well.
And to reinforce an old image of Republicans as the party of wealth, we have Michael Steele’s seemingly self-serving behavior, strip clubs in Los Angeles, a $300,000 getaway to the Hilton Hawaiian Village resort and possible legal action over the misuse of party American Express cards in Florida. Oh yes, and Tea Party conservatives’ attacks on once-respected elected officials like Florida’s Gov. Charlie Crist.

Owners of Kirkland massage parlor (and others) arrested for multi-state prostitution, money laundering scheme

The owners of a string of massage parlors in Washington – including one in Kirkland – and California were arrested Thursday after an investigation found a prostitution and money laundering scheme.
Tham Nguyen, 48, and Suong Tran, 51, both of Burien, face charges of conspiracy to transport individuals in furtherance of prostitution and conspiracy to engage in money laundering. A federal grand jury handed down a two-count indictment against them Wednesday.
According to court documents, the defendants owned and operated three massage parlors in Washington, three similar businesses in California and a legal brothel in Nevada. The massage parlors were allegedly fronts for prostitution.
The massage parlors in Washington include the Fantasy Health Spa, at 11516 124th Ave. N.E. in Kirkland, the Sauna Relax Station in Auburn and Bamboo Sauna in Burien.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Two people from Washington state operated massage parlors in Sacramento and Lodi that were actually fronts for prostitution, immigration officials alleged Thursday.
Tham Nguyen, 48, and Suong Tran, 51, were taken into custody Thursday after agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, along with local authorities, executed federal search warrants at the businesses. A federal grand jury issued a two-county indictment Wednesday.
Immigration officials said the pair operated AAH Spa on North Cherokee Lane in Lodi, Valley Spa on North California Street in Lodi, and Healthy Living Nails and Spa on 47th Avenue in Sacramento. They also operated spas in Washington and a legal brothel in Nevada, immigration officials claimed.

S.J. finalizes lap dancing ordinance
STOCKTON – Lap dances are now adult entertainment, officially and permanently, in unincorporated San Joaquin County.
On Tuesday, the county Board of Supervisors made permanent an interim ordinance put in place in May 2008 in response to a legal challenge.
The temporary ordinance outlived Lockeford’s On the Beach bikini bar, whose owner filed a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the county’s ordinance regulating entertainment permits.
The new regulations include a more expansive – and graphic – description of what constitutes adult entertainment.
It also defines lap dance: “Lap Dance means for any person whether clothed, partially nude or nude, in exchange for any compensation or gratuity to cause any part of his or her body, directly or through a medium, to touch, rub, caress, or fondle the genital or pubic region of any member of the public or allow, suffer or tolerate himself or herself to be caressed or fondled by any person.”

Sex Trafficking Suspect Pleads Guilty

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Sacramento man accused of acting as a pimp for a teenage girl has pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of sex trafficking of a minor.
Marvin Chavelle Epps, 23, was arrested by Sacramento police after being wanted on a federal warrant related to a child pornography charge.
Prosecutors said Epps met his victim on MySpace, then used the Internet to solicit sex dates in a North Sacramento motel.
The victim told authorities that she gave Epps all the money she earned from her prostitution activity, prosecutors said.
Epps is scheduled to be sentenced on July 26.

LODI – Federal agents on Thursday searched two Lodi massage parlors they believe are fronts for brothels, and the out-of-state owners are jailed, facing prostitution and money-laundering charges.
Business partners Tham Nguyen, 48, and Suong Tran, 51, both of the Seattle suburb of Burien, Wash., were arrested after a federal grand jury issued a two-count indictment, authorities with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced.
Authorities say the two own several massage parlors in Washington and California and a legal brothel in Nevada.
In Lodi, the businesses searched were the AAH Spa at 20 N. Cherokee Lane and Valley Spa at 321 N. California St.

Investigators believe that beginning in 2007, Nguyen and Tran hired women from out of state to work as prostitutes and moved them back and forth among the parlors, according to an agency news release.
