Sacramento Strip Clubs: Arden Arcade council candidate stirs controversy over strip club donations

Filed under: Sacramento strip clubs — porsche @ 6:36 pm and

SACRAMENTO, CA- A candidate for city council in Arden Arcade has stirred controversy over donations from the strip club industry.
Matt Gray has worked as a lobbyist for the strip club industry and recently-released campaign disclosure filings show he’s received a total of just over $5,000 from several companies, including Deja Vu Showgirls of Rancho Cordova, which gave him $2,000 and Cathay entertainment Inc., which gave $1,100.
Gray said the money has been given by his former clients because they have faith in his commitment to business. “These are individuals who have paid attention to my track record. They’ve reviewed my business platform. They’re just other businesses that like what I stand for – I’m a pro-business individual.”

Gray points out that the Arden Arcade area is not zoned for strip clubs and that he has no plans to change that. “The industry doesn’t exist in a vacuum. They’re condemning every single customer who either purchases a magazine or a toy or some sort of video or goes to these clubs,” he said.

Sacramento Massage Parlors: Letters for October 28, 2010

Filed under: Sacramento massage parlors — happyending @ 4:48 am and

Arden Arcade is not, and has never been, considered part of the city of Sacramento, except by the city officials who are already planning how to use the revenue provided by annexation to solve their budget woes. We are a separate community, with a separate identity, just like Rancho Cordova and Citrus Heights.
SN&R used to stand up for the little guy. So sorry to see you have sold out to the politicos and special interests who are trying so hard to keep our neighborhoods stuck in the mire. The wealthy fighting this have feathered their nests, and don’t give a crap about the people who will have a better quality of life through incorporation.
Oh wait, I forgot. All these massage parlors that surround my home advertise in your paper. My mistake. As usual, it’s just all about the money, isn’t it?

Sacramento Escorts: Here and There, Retail Is Making a Comeback

When the sunglass and sportswear maker Oakley wanted to expand its presence in Manhattan, it leased space last month on a busy corner that was swarming with tourists. To get that space, Oakley is paying $1,375 a square foot — what some luxury retailers paid on Madison Avenue’s choicest blocks before the recession.
But Oakley’s store, which will be 1,815 square feet, will not have a Madison Avenue address. Instead, it is at 1515 Broadway at 44th Street in Times Square, a neighborhood once known more for peep shows and prostitutes than astronomical rents. Yet three other retailers competed with Oakley for the space, said Jeffrey B. Roseman, an executive vice president at the brokerage Newmark Knight Frank, who represented the landlord, the S L Green Realty Corporation.

Sacramento Strip Clubs: Watching over welfare

Watching over welfare
Times stories about abuse have prompted Sacramento to cut off some benefits. But did the state do its homework?
In a series of articles in June and July, The Times reported that California welfare recipients were able to use their state-issued ATM cards to get cash benefits at casinos, strip clubs and massage parlors. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger moved swiftly to make sure the cards were no longer valid in those places. Some lawmakers urged the administration to track down people who withdrew money at such locales and get it back.
Last week, The Times reported that more than $69 million in welfare money had been spent out of state, including in Las Vegas and on cruise ships, from 2007 to May of this year. The Schwarzenegger administration again moved quickly to cut off the use of the state cards in vacation spots.

Sacramento Adult Entertainment: Top FBI agent in Sacramento, Drew Parenti, announces he’ll retire

Filed under: Sacramento adult entertainment — mrparty @ 8:36 pm and

During Parenti’s tenure as Special Agent In Charge of the eastern District of California, the office hired a Muslim FBI agent, and built significant bridges with Sacramentans across religious, ethnic and class lines. More than 200 community leaders went through the Sacramento FBI’s Citizens’ Academy to learn more about how the agency works.
“There comes a time in life when you want a new challenge, a new adventure,” said Parenti, who’s been an FBI agent for 26 years and is eligible to retire. “One of the great pleasures of my life has been to interact with the truly diverse, varied, incredible communities we have here in the Eastern District.” Parenti, 50, said the FBI “is a hard organization to leave,” and praised his FBI colleagues, along with local and state law enforcement agencies who partnered with his office to fight crimes ranging from mortgage fraud to gang violence, drug trafficking, cybercrime, youth prostitution and terrorism.

Court Leaves Chippendales and Kilpatrick Stockton (Nearly) Naked

It has been about a decade since Stephen Feingold of Kilpatrick Stockton began his campaign to help Chippendales, the famous strip club that caters to women, try and nail down the strongest possible trade dress protection for the “outfits” its dancers wear before taking it all off.
You know the dancers we’re talking about, even if you only know them from the famous Saturday Night Live skit featuring the late, great Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley sporting bow ties, wrist cuffs, and very tight pants.
That battle may have ended today, and not the way Feingold had hoped.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on Friday upheld earlier decisions that held that Chippendales “cuffs & collars” mark is subject to one sort of trade dress protection but not another companion designation that the adult-entertainment company claims is stronger, according to court records and Feingold.

Sacramento Adult Entertainment: ‘Angels’ working to keep Sacramentans safe

Filed under: Sacramento adult entertainment — mrparty @ 4:36 am and

… Basically, we patrol the street to deter crime and educate people against drugs, gangs and violence,” said Patrick Kent, head of the Sacramento chapter.
Kent, who was also at the Lavender Angels training session, said he wants both groups to work in partnership, and added that he thinks the Lavender Angels program is a good idea and will keep the Guardian Angels from having to patrol the area.
“We generally will patrol once a week,” Kent said. “We don’t always do a set day, like Saturdays between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m., because if we did, then the criminal element would know when we’re out.”
Kent described his group as being “a bit more extreme” than the Lavender Angels, as Guardian Angels occasionally make citizens’ arrests.
The Guardian Angels also cover a much wider area, including patrols down Watt Avenue where drug trafficking and prostitution are problems.

Stephenson refused to change his mind. The judge reiterated his reasoning. In an earlier hearing, he stated that he believes Serratos is a danger to the community.
Serratos’ criminal history may have influenced the judge.
Serratos faces a prison sentence of more than 50 years on charges he was drunk on July 12 when he caused an accident that killed 18-year-old Destanee Little and injured her two passengers.
The accident happened at West Lane and Armstrong Road between Lodi and Stockton. Witnesses said Serratos tried to walk away from the accident scene.
He was also arrested in 2006 for drunken driving after leaving Déjà Vu Showgirls, a Stockton strip club, where he had pulled a BB gun on an employee. Earlier that month, he had been arrested for boating under the influence.
