Sacramento Adult Entertainment: Tale of gods, women at Folsom Lake College

Tale of gods, women at Folsom Lake College
The Falcon’s Eye Theatre at Folsom Lake College is kicking off their fifth full season with Bertolt Brecht’s timeless parable, “The Good Person of Szechwan.”
According to those involved, the play centers around a young woman who is forced into prostitution by poverty.
She is rewarded handsomely after opening her home to three visiting gods. By disproving the gods’ contention that no goodness still exists on earth, the woman is given a small business by the gods, and from there she struggles to work honestly and to provide for the needy.
After falling victim to unscrupulous neighbors and a dishonest lover, she is forced to create a fierce, manipulative, and efficient alter-ego — that of her strong-willed business-savvy male “cousin.”
“The Good Person of Szechwan” opens Friday, Oct. 28, and will continue through Sunday, Nov. 13. The play is directed by David Harris while Scott Gilbert serves as production designer and technical director. The costumes are designed by Rebecca Redmond.

… I would appreciate if our Agape family and friends spread the word about the Treat the Tricked campaign and raise money to help these children,” Brewster said. “Many of us are very blessed and for two bags of candy this holiday, you can change lives.”
About Agape International Missions
In response to the problem of human trafficking, Agape International Missions in 2005 began to focus its efforts on ending this travesty in Cambodia by providing transformational aftercare for victims rescued from sex trafficking and increasing prevention efforts through a network of village churches. Agape opened Agape Restoration Center in August 2006, providing holistic, long-term aftercare for rescued girls, and in September 2007, opened a community center, Rahab’s House, in a former brothel in the heart of a village where sex slavery is the norm for every girl by the age of 10. Sacramento Adult Entertainment: Investors kicked off the week in a more positive mood

Retail sales very mixed, cut-price UK supermarkets gaining ground over their bigger rivals, forcing the latter into a series of competitive price cuts and promotions. Poundland, where everything costs £1, plans to add another 50 UK stores to its existing 360 as earnings rose 34% while Gap will close 21%, 700 of its North American shops. Overnight queues form to buy Apple’s new phone today while Blackberry users globally lose e-mail services this week.
Underlying Themes
Research published in highly-respected medical journal The Lancet outlines the effects of Greece’s financial crisis on the health of its citizens, and makes worrying reading indeed. Budget cuts and unemployment are causing soaring rates of depression, drug dependency (heroin use +20% since 2009), prostitution, HIV infection (+50%), suicide (+17% at least) and murder. To make matters worse healthcare cuts mean it has become more difficult to see a doctor or be admitted to hospital. Pharmaceutical companies, some of which have not been paid at all by the state or been paid in Greek government bonds, have stopped selling drugs to hospitals so that those on prescriptions have to try and buy what they need from private pharmacies.

… You can get a lab coat for $15 or $20 and maybe add a stethoscope to it for a good costume that’s really cheap, or you can go all out and really customize something,” she said.
She added that people can make zombie costumes as easily as tearing up clothes they already have and then applying makeup.
“Makeup really is what makes a zombie costume,” she said. “There are lots of great videos on YouTube that show you how to do the makeup.”
Lauren Gregory, a 20-year-old Sacramentan, browsed the store Monday trying to decide what she will be for Halloween.
“I have no idea yet,” she said. “I wanted to come here because I read online that it’s haunted and used to be a brothel, and I like that kind of creepy history.”
Kossmann said the upper floors of the Gold Rush-era building were used as a boarding house for a long time and did serve as a brothel-type business at one point.

Sacramento Adult Entertainment: 100 Years of Women’s Right to Vote in California

100 Years of Women’s Right to Vote in California
(Sacramento, CA)
Monday, October 10, 2011
On October 10th, 1911, California men narrowly gave women the right to vote.  In fact, many Bay Area counties, including San Francisco, opposed the measure.  Sacramento State Government Professor Kim Nalder says that’s because the women’s suffrage movement was closely tied to prohibition.
Nalder: “There were a lot of bars and brothels too, so prostitution was one of the issues.  And there was this conception that women might do away with some of the old boy’s clubs and the power centers that previously existed that were comfortable for some people.”
Instead, women’s suffrage passed with strong support in rural areas.  Nalder says the arguments in favor were more about extending the duties of the household to the state – rather than civil rights and equality.
