Police asking victims of Stockton prostitution ring to come forward, receive help
Stockton man arrested, victims identified so far are between 13 and 22 years old
STOCKTON – Police are urging the victims of an online prostitution ring involving young girls to come forward and receive help.
Christpoher Chessman, 22, of Stockton, was arrested this week in the city as part of a two-month investigation, said Officer Pete Smith, a police spokesman.
Officers believe there may be several victims who have yet to be identified and are afraid to speak with police. They’re asking those with information to call the Stockton Police Department Vice Unit at (209) 937-8422 and ask for Detective Wesley Grinder or to call police dispatch at (209) 937-9377.

Smith said the leader of the prostitution ring or one of his associates would entice victims into getting together for a movie or a meal. Then the men would hold the girl against her will and force her into prostitution.

A Sacramento man was sentenced today to 7 1/2 years in prison for sex trafficking of minors.
Reginald Wilson, 23, also was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Frank C. Damrell Jr. to 15 years of supervised probation, according to a federal Department of Justice news release.
According to court documents, in December 2007 and January 2008, Wilson recruited two girls, ages 15 and 16, and caused them to engage in prostitution. Wilson pleaded guilty Sept. 8, 2009.
The case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Innocence Lost Task Force.

Because men dress for practicality, some of the things women do, such as barhop in 5-inch heels, perplexes them. “I do see where guys might scratch their heads at why we wear stilettos or put on makeup before the gym,” she said. “Men are justified sometimes.”
There is plenty that confuses Joey Combs of Danville, Calif., about what women wear.
He doesn’t like how some girls try too hard, he said. That includes overdoing the jewelry or sporting loud hosiery. An appealing, feminine look is “a nice dress, matching earrings and some shoes,” Combs said. “Not too formal. Even a T-shirt and jeans. I don’t like big hoop earrings, especially with stilettos. It reminds me of prostitutes in ’80s cop movies. Oh, and tons of makeup. I hate that.”

All six of the murder victims and both of the sexual assault victims were street prostitutes. Defendant referred to prostitutes as “bitches, whores and tramps.” He said he treated them “like that because that’s the way they wanted to be treated” and “that’s why they’re out there. . . . Steele, supra, 27 Cal.4th at p. 1250 [strong inference of motive from defendant's statement to police he hated women and evidence he previously killed a young woman similar in appearance to the victim].) The evidence showed that defendant had thought about this kind of violence outside the immediate circumstances of his crimes and conveyed his views to others.

Attendees of the tour were treated to glasses of wine or beer as they strolled through the cemetery during either the sunset or the later moonlight tour. Along the way, they were met with actors dressed up in period costumes who shared stories about how their character lived…and how they died.
To go along with the spirits the guests were drinking, the theme of the night was brewers and saloon owners.
The first character the guests met was Simon. He was one of the most popular people in Sacramento and was shot during the gold rush days. Then there was a woman who ran the temperance movement, an alleged prostitute who blew pepper in a woman’s face and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, and a bartender who got hammered -literally. He was killed when a couple of thugs hit him in the back of the head with a blacksmith’s hammer.

Alleged prostitute robbed of cash, cell phone
On June 18 at about 2:45 a.m., police responded to an armed robbery at Extended Stay America at 1000 Hillview Court.
Police said a 19-year-old Madera woman was robbed inside her room after another 19-year-old woman allegedly opened the door for two armed men. One man brandished a black semi-automatic pistol and took the victim’s cell phone and several hundred dollars cash, police said.
Both men then left the area with the other woman.
The first suspect was described as an African-American male, unknown age, 6 feet, 2 inches tall, 220 pounds, wearing a white shirt and dark jeans, police said.

The victim, who admitted to working as a prostitute, gave the name of the other woman to investigators who are searching for all three suspects, police said.

At the same time, they don’t want to go down with Sacramento County’s ship. The county is trying to close a $122 million budget gap, with deep cuts to mental-health services, code enforcement and sheriff’s patrols.
Sheriff’s vice and narcotics units in the county have been eliminated, along with many of the “problem-oriented policing” teams for Watt Avenue, Fair Oaks, Carmichael and Arden.
“Due to the cuts and the lack of proactive policing, we’re seeing quality-of-life issues crop up, and petty crimes are going up,” said Capt. Stephen Bunce, commander of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s North Division.
Bunce added that prostitution activity has surged in the hotels along Watt Avenue, and has made something of a comeback on Auburn Boulevard, too. “A year ago, we had it under control. Now we’re starting to lose some of that control,” Bunce explained.

According to court documents filed in the case, on January 11, 2008, police received a report of a 15-year-old runaway from Montana. The police learned that the girl was being offered as a prostitute on Craigslist, and an undercover police officer made a date to meet her. The officer met her in a Sacramento motel room, confirmed that she was in fact the 15-year-old runaway, and took her into custody.
The girl told police that she had run away from her home in Montana at Wests urging when she began talking to him online. West paid for a bus ticket for the girl to come to Sacramento from Montana, and she arrived on December 25, 2007. West met her at the bus station and took her to a female friends apartment where he had the woman post an ad on the online service RedBook offering the girl as a prostitute. The girl prostituted for West out of a Sacramento motel for two days.
