Butler also pleaded guilty to helping Wielsh in 2009 open an illegal massage parlor where the masseuses provided sexual services. He admitted today to collecting more than $10,000 from the women working there in exchange for protection from Wielsh.

Wielsch suggested the reason may have been that he “was in a bad place” with stress from nerve problems that were deforming his feet and the illness of a daughter diagnosed with liver tumors. He wept as he spoke of his daughter.
“I cry about it every day. I shamed my family, I shamed my department, I shamed law enforcement. I violated their trust,” Wielsch said in the taped interview.
The former officer also said, “I have no one to blame but myself.”
Butler did not appear on the television shows.
The two men are scheduled to return to Armstrong’s court on March 20 for a status conference and the setting of future court dates.
Wielsch and Butler are accused in a 2011 federal grand jury indictment of stealing and selling marijuana and methamphetamine from CNET and extorting weekly protection payments from women in an illegal massage parlor they established in Pleasant Hill.

The indictment alleges that Wielsch, who was working as the commander of the state-run Central Contra Costa County Narcotic Enforcement Team, known as CNET, stole methamphetamine and marijuana from county evidence lockers and, working with Butler, a private investigator and former Antioch police officer, sold them back out onto the streets.
The two men are also charged with committing a phony sting operation in which they falsely detained a person, conducted searches without warrants and seized drugs from him while pretending to be conducting a legitimate law enforcement operation.
The indictment also alleges that Butler opened a massage parlor in Pleasant Hill where prostitution was occurring. Butler allegedly required the prostitutes to pay him a weekly fee, which he allegedly shared with Wielsch, in exchange for Wielsch providing them protection from law enforcement.

Former Contra Costa County Narcotics Enforcement Cmdr. Norman Wielsch and ex-private investigator Christopher Butler stand accused of 17 felonies. The duo, who had been free on bail on previous charges in the case, were re-arrested by FBI agents and locked up without bail as the indictment was handed down in a federal court in San Francisco.
The indictment accuses Wielsh and Butler, both 50, of working together to steal methamphetamine and marijuana from police evidence lockers and selling it back on the street.
The amount of drugs they’re accused of stealing is enough to land them in federal prison for a decade, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The two also pimped out sex workers at a Pleasant Hill massage parlor, the charges say. They are accused of demanding weekly payments from the women in exchange for protection, according to the indictment.
