Sacramento Strip Clubs: Assembly: No using welfare cash cards at casinos

… SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – California lawmakers want to make it official – welfare recipients cannot use their state-issued debit cards at casinos, strip clubs or similar business.
The Assembly on Friday approved AB493, which prohibits CalWORKS recipients from using the cards in cash machines at gambling or adult entertainment businesses. The vote was 50-8, sending the bill to the Senate.
State rules already prohibit using cards in such businesses. The bill by Assemblyman Henry Perea, D-Fresno, would make it law.
Eight Democrats voted against the bill. Some argued that card rooms offer the closest ATM for some recipients.
Card use was limited last year after the Los Angeles Times reported they were used to withdraw about $12,000 from strip club ATMs in three years. The state paid $10.8 billion in benefits during that period.

Sacramento Strip Clubs: The comeback

The comeback
Five years after her softball story nearly ended, Katie Cotta is writing a new chapter full of sound and fury, signifying nothing’s over till it’s over
STOCKTON – From alcohol and drugs to sirens and strip clubs, Katie Cotta strayed so far from softball she didn’t know how to go back.
Once viewed by USA Softball officials as a gifted pitching prospect with a world of potential, Cotta gave up the game and immersed herself in a world without dreams after a nervous breakdown led to anxiety, depression and drastic weight loss.
Cotta yearned to play again, but instead she did other things. She smoked, drank and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. She modeled, performed as a go-go dancer, greeted customers at the cash register at Déjà Vu Erotic Ultra Lounge, sold cars, served drinks and waited tables.

Sacramento Strip Clubs: "Lakewood High’s "Sacramento 7’s" Proposed Legislation Is Controversial, ACLU …

Filed under: Sacramento strip clubs — porsche @ 7:24 pm and

State law requires children between the ages of 6 and 18 to attend school. Because of this, students become a captive audience while at school, and while considerable attention is placed on
what kids are exposed to in the classroom, there is little oversight as soon as students are dismissed. Without the proper tools, school administrators are unable to maintain a safe
learning environment and ensure students’ safety…
In 2002, members of Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust gathered outside Millikan High School in Long Beach. The group, located on the sidewalk directly bordering the high school, displayed gruesome signs and distributed leaflets to students during dismissal.
In 2003, at Dodson Middle School in Rancho Palos Verdes, a group from the Center for Bio Ethical Reform placed graphic
photographs on the sides of trucks and drove around Dodson Middle School while students arrived. Several children reported becoming physically ill, some cried and many averted their eyes from the photos.
At Lakewood High School in Long Beach Unified School District, different individuals have been present during school dismissal to distribute items such as flyers for a nearby strip club.

Sacramento Strip Clubs: This storyline has only one article

The Sacramento Press recently posed the question, “Where in Sacramento would you never want to take your parents,” to individuals at Westfield Downtown Plaza. After speaking to some fellow Sacramentans, the most common response was nightlife activities.
Kevin Watson, 29, lives downtown and works as a graphic designer. He said he thought taking his dad to a club could get pretty weird. “I wouldn’t want to take my dad to Faces (Nightclub). That place is pretty crazy, and it would just be really awkward if he got hit on while I was there.”
A number of people felt a club was a good place not to take their parents. A couple of individuals even specified strip clubs. Joe Morales, 21, who works as a gold buyer for Gold Rush at the mall, said, “I would never take my parents to a strip club. That’s just uncomfortable and real awkward!”

Sacramento Strip Clubs: Dixon Then and Now: Transcontinental Highway Went Through Downtown Dixon

Also along Adams Street and Highway 40 were a good number of gas stations. I expect that in those days, white-garbed attendants pumped gas for travellers and wiped windshields. You’ll see photographs of some of those stations accompanying this column.
Another overnight stop along Highway 40 was the Casa Blanca Motel – a traditional motel – just outside Dixon in those days, located where Walmart is now. A postcard in the Dixon Library archives depicts it in its glory days. The postcard was mailed in 1960, so it was still operating then. I’m told by local historian Alan Schmeiser that in its later years the motel had a topless bar. He said that due to poor access from the eventual freeway, at some point the motel was shuttered and went out of business.

Sacramento Strip Clubs: Cop impersonator gets 240 days in jail

Filed under: Sacramento strip clubs — porsche @ 11:36 pm and

On Thursday Judge Colleen Nichols sentenced Chad Richard Mowry, who was 26 when he was arrested in July, to 240 days in jail, five years of formal probation and a $540 fine, according to Art Campos, spokesman for the Placer County District Attorney’s Office.
As part of his probation Mowry must submit to DNA testing and drug and alcohol testing, maintain employment, stay in California, not harass his victim, and submit to search and seizure. Mowry also can’t possess any kind of drugs or paraphernalia without a prescription, Campos said.
According to Lisa Botwinik, the prosecutor on the case, Mowry has to attend a year-long drug treatment program.
Mowry pleaded no contest in January to residential burglary and impersonating a public officer, both felonies.
Mowry allegedly told an Auburn woman he knew prostitution was going on in her home and as a law enforcement official, he could make any potential charges go away.
Auburn police said while male strippers were visiting the woman’s home, there was no evidence that prostitution was taking place.

Timothy Balcom, Mowry’s attorney, said Wednesday Mowry’s recommended sentence is 240 days in jail. The recommended sentence also includes three years of probation.
