Stockton Council wins £1,800 in costs
STOCKTON Council has won £1,800 in costs after the closure of a Thornaby property at the centre of anti-social behaviour allegations.
The closure order was made by Teesside Magistrates’ Court last September following claims of persistent disorder and nuisance at the privately-owned house in Cheltenham Avenue.
The order had been sought by Stockton Council’s anti-social behaviour team. At an initial hearing, the council said it had spent £1,593.53 on work such as shuttering the property and monitoring it for breach of the order, as well as court costs and legal fees.
Teesside Magistrates’ Court awarded costs of £1,800 to Stockton Council.
The closure followed incidents of fighting, loud noise and frequent visitors in connection with drug dealing and prostitution.
The council said the move was a last resort after the landlords had failed to co-operate with council staff despite numerous attempts.

SANTA CLARA — The Santa Clara County jury that last week convicted Wesley Howard Shermantine of four murders committed in San Joaquin County listened intently Wednesday as two women accused Shermantine of kidnappings, assaults and rapes stretching back more than a decade.
A 38-year-old woman testified Shermantine, in October 1987, drove her to an industrial park near Airport Way, held a gun to her head and ordered her to perform oral sex on him. When Shermantine couldn’t get an erection immediately, she said, he became incensed and beat and raped her.
After the alleged rape, the woman said, Shermantine dropped her off on Wilson Way. Later that night, she and some friends spotted Shermantine and chased him through central Stockton. Eventually, she said, they lost him. She never pressed charges.
“I felt it was hopeless, … because I was a prostitute and … I was scared,” she said.
Shermantine’s defense attorney, Douglas Jacobsen, grilled the woman about her prostitution history, which included convictions in 1992, 1994, 1996 and 1998.

SANTA CLARA — Jurors wept Tuesday as a Stockton woman described her downward spiral into drugs and prostitution, directly related, she said, to Wesley Shermantine murdering her older sister, Chevelle “Chevy” Wheeler.
When the 16-year-old Franklin High School student didn’t come home after skipping school with Shermantine 16 years ago, Marnie Wheeler, then 14, finally told her parents of her sister’s plans.
“I kind of felt that it was my fault for not telling my parents right away,” said Wheeler, crying uncontrollably on the stand. “So to kill the pain, I started using drugs and alcohol. … My parents were unable to control me.”
On Feb. 14, a Santa Clara County jury found Shermantine guilty of the murder of Chevy Wheeler, 16, in 1985. They also convicted him of killing Paul Cavanaugh, 31, and Howard King, 35, off Daggett Road in 1984 and Clements woman Cyndi Vanderheiden, 25, in 1998.

Solomon, now 66, a soft-spoken handyman who befriended and at times housed many of the prostitutes of Oak Park, was found guilty in 1991 of killing six of them. The Sacramento Superior Court jury also found him guilty of sexually assaulting two other victims.
But the penalty phase of the trial ended with the jury deadlocked, and it was not until almost a year later that a different jury returned a verdict of death.
In the 10 months between June 1986 and April 1987 police discovered the bodies of seven prostitutes. All but one were found at homes where Solomon had worked or resided. More than half were buried in shallow, backyard graves. Nearly all of the women had been bound, two were gagged, and four were nude or partially clad from the waist down. All were drug users.
After Solomon’s arrest, three prostitutes reported to police that he had sexually assaulted them. One had been bound and gagged.

Anyone who really watched the development of the Tea Party movement, as part of the anti-healthcare reform effort, understands that it was a creation of Fox News and corporate funded Right Wing Republican operatives. Despite many claims to the contrary, it brought very few new faces into the political process.
What the Tea Party public relations campaign did was simply “re-brand” the various largely discredited, Right Wing fringe elements in the Republican Party under a new name. It did con the mainstream corporate media very effectively into calling blatant corporatist, economic elitist policies “populist.” It was a bad joke that the media completely missed or just ignored.
Like the fake ACORN pimp and voter registration scandals, the storyline falls apart completely when the details are examined in any detail. The spin relies on manufactured “facts” that are really outrageous lies being told over and over again. In time, the storyline falls apart but often the damage has been done. It appears the mainstream corporate media has learned absolutely nothing from their Iraq War-Weapons of Mass Deception experience.
