She said ABC traditionally makes alcohol violation arrests, issues citations, and conducts hearings and investigations that can lead to the liquor license of businesses being suspended or revoked.
“It’s always been a plus to have ABC out there helping us,” Dye said. “We’re coming into a time of year when we could really use their help.”
Labor Day weekend, the first week of classes at Chico State University, and Halloween have historically seen a heavy presence by ABC officers in Chico.
Dye said a grant that covered an ABC liaison officer for the Chico Police Department ran out in 2004, but cooperation between the two agencies has remained solid.
In a press release issued Wednesday, the California Association of State Investigators stated that due to the nature of their work, ABC officers often investigate crimes involving drug dealing, prostitution and stolen property fencing rings.
