The DNA of a Sacramento man arrested in September in connection with two sexual assaults there links him to a 1997 case in which an elderly Fairfield woman was similarly assaulted, authorities announced Tuesday.
Albert Povadora, 34, remains in the custody of the Sacramento County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
On Sept. 18, Povadora was arrested near his home on suspicion of 14 counts of sexual assault, including six counts of forcible rape. Posing as a law enforcement officer, he raped a 16-year-old girl on Aug. 10 and a 49-year-old woman on Aug. 27, according to Sacramento police. Povadora, officials said, targeted women he thought were prostitutes and may be responsible for a series of sexual assaults.
